URBAN MANUFACTURER II
CHAPTER: IV

For chapter IV, the implementation and further development of idea from previous chapters are being implemented onto the existed site for the first time. The aim is to create a narrative that would describe and convey the proposed environmental condition; to create an urban wooded environment.

The urban scenarios of the project are depicted into four separated diagram which convey the reverence of the project in different time scale.

Urban Scenario 1 - Reintroduction and Recovering (Stop-time)
Past processes such as saw milling and canal transportation method are revived in order to preserve and reinvigorate the area. However, the reintroduced processes come with several requirements and related processes such as raw log storage and drying process of a freshly saw lumber. These solution are what being address in the proposal

Urban Scenario 2 - Temporarity and Sharing (Short-time)
In order to maximize the use of the limited space, sharing of equipment such as lift, drying kiln, and movable raft-platform is the best way to minimize the redundancy of equipment and also promote communal interaction between occupant of the area. The space tectonic of the building is conceive in a way which it can be adapt to certain activities during different period of a day

Urban Scenario 3 - Engagement and Public Involvement
In order to appeal to the wider array of audience, promotion of the area and its incorporate activities should be held. I envision the place to flexible enough so events such as maker fair, trade show, or other craft related event will be held to promote and draw in people to be interested and ultimately would continue to preserve the craft.

Urban Scenario 4 - Customization and Evolution
Apart from vertical growth to accommodate the ever-increasing need of living space, alternative means such as canal house and floating rate house are being proposed to maximized the space utilization. By promoting the area as a community of artisan and craftsman, the area could potentially draw in craft people from all over Bangkok to continue practice their skill within this urban environment

PlastiCity - UM 2.0

PlastiCity

The concluded concept of this project will basically consists of 4 urban scenarios
with the aim of recycle encouragement as well as allowing access of people to
the Chrao Phraya river as a part of “Bring Life Back To Chao Phraya” Campaign.

1st Scenario - On-Land Facility - A Park - Raw Material Producer / Feeder

The first scenario is the place where the plastic trash
will be bought and process to create an object, raw material and
a floater in which will help develop the project to
its ultimate scenario.

2nd Scenario - Artificial Island Production Space

The second scenario will be the main production facility
in which it will used the raw material produced in the first scenario
and 3d print space on top of the floater to create a sort of
artificial islands.

3rd Scenario - Artificial Public Island

Later, these island would be colonizing the river shore with many different programs according to the need of people in many different area along the river. This is not only to allow the use of recyclable plastic waste in another level but its outcome will also provide a place that connect people to the river in a hope to bring the river as a part of everyone’s life. Therefore, everyone in the city will be much more protective and conservative of the river. Ultimately, when this type of space is broken or can be no longer used, it will be pushed back into the cycle again to create something useful according to its property and quality.

URBAN MANUFACTURER 2.0 : CHAPTER 4

CHAPTER 4 :
 MAKING CITY
STEEL AND PAPER COMMUNITY

In this chapter, I try to combine all of the possible solutions from previous
chapter into 3 main ideas in order to improve production space, quality of life of
local people and overall atmosphere based on several concepts following;

First, Closing the "SOIS" to get controllable environments and bigger space.
Second, As using the scraps to create new urban landscape,
every piece is different so everything should be craft.
Third, Using sculpture solution to generate urban landscape.

FIRST SCENARIO : EXPANSION OF INDOOR PRODUCTIVE SPACE TO SOI, USING  THE SCRAPS  TO GENERATE  URBAN LANDSCAPE.
IT IS PLACED  NEAR MAIN ROAD OR THE SOI THAT CONNECT BETWEEN TWO MAIN ROAD IN ORDER TO ACCESS EASILY.

SECOND SCENARIO : EXPANSION OF OUTDOOR PRODUCTIVE SPACE TO SOI, USING  THE SCRAPS TO GENERATE URBAN LANDSCAPE.
IT IS PLACED NEAR MAIN ROAD OR THE SOI THAT CONNECT BETWEEN TWO MAIN ROAD IN ORDER TO ACCESS EASILY.
THIRD SCENARIO : DESIGNING SHOPHOUSE DEVELOPMENT IN DENSE RESIDENTIAL AREATO IMPROVE QUALITY OF LIFE OF LOCAL PEOPLE IN THE AREA BY CREATING DIFFERENT TYPES OF STRUCTURE IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE PEOPLE'S NEEDS.

FORTH SCENARIO : PROVIDING PUBLIC SPACE BY DEMOLISHING SOME SHOPHOUSES TO GET BIGGER SPACE TO USE AS RELAXING SPACE.
IT WILL BE PLACE ALONG CHAO PHRAYA RIVER IN ORDER TO GET NICE VIEW. HOWEVER THE PRODUCTIVE SPACES ARE STILL IN SOI.

UM 2.0 Productive City : Flower Floating Island

Chapter IV
In chapter, I focused on the hierarchy of floating island then separate into statics or fixed floating and dynamic or movable floating.
The static floating was located at the temple along Chaopraya river. It was considered as energy provider. It has water collector, solar panel and wind turbine for generate energy for floating island. And also vermicomposting for recycle flower waste. Because of the temple is one of the place that have most of flower waste to it will be easier to have recycle space located here.

The dynamic floating is the space that everyone can construct by themselves.  These are the example of variation of dynamic space. (vertical farming, controlled atmosphere farming, laboratory, market, flower workshop and garden and public space. The form of each island usually simplify from the form of flower and use the organic material which is bamboo as structure.

UM 2.0 Productive City : Over the Clouds

CHAPTER IV

On the Chapter IV, the landscape and urban structure  will be considered as the network generated new atmospheric and experience to the city. The renewable paper manufacture system is engaging on the existing medias such as urban typology of shop-house and also infrastructure. It can be described that this network is the enormous contemporary landscape and public spaces that will be transformed by the people to create different scenarios.

The project used the productive processes be a part of improving urban typology and quality of life while promote the economic of the community. The mapping shows the new connection to the city and also promote the different situation with unusual structure. For the network, it is divided as 3 steps including Collective, modified and new urban products and structures. This connection is not just give a temporal social impacts to provide the public spaces and improve life quality, yet it is also affect to the environments as reducing  pollution.

00 - Proposal Mapping

The collective is designed to be the different from today, it is not just a container that just standing at the pathway such that this Urban furniture provoke the usage of urban space to be public space that people can engage and interact with it to change the landscape. The machine lets people collect the recycle to the tree and the amount of the will gather be the shading provide and the clean energy can be generate to by exercise equipment at the Base.

01 - Paper Collector

In this step, the paper community will collect those recycle paper to modify. The system using the hanging conveyor system as the roof to publish the productive process along with be the shading for the community. For conveyor system, it divided to be 3 main lines which clarify the way to modify the recycle paper. There are including new paper, Joss paper and new products.

02 - Urban Typology

For the next scenario, it proposed The new chimney  to city. It is the fascinating way to turns ritual to be productive processes. The chimney has their own circle processes to collect the toxic ash from burning the Joss paper at the base. And transform to be the fertilizer to used for grow the plants on garden at  top. The Facade is made of the seed paper from the community which is not just a shading provide,  yet it is also increasing the green space to the city.

03A - New Economic Products

In this scenarios, according to the dramatic economic, the community produced the new economic products that made from the recycle paper to giving additional space for the shop house and improved the facilities inside the community. For the example; artificial facade, floor adding, new building and rooftop. Those new products are not just occurred and use at the paper community only, there can also expand to the other communities  to improve their standards.

03B - New Chimney

The project will not occur and affect in just a particular community area, yet it will be expand to the other spots in Bangkok or Country as the virus. The ultimate solution did not just aim to build the things that are aesthetic and elegant, yet the project proposed to generate and reorganize the productive processes. And published them to the public which people can engage and be a part of the processes. In the other words, the processes turn to be the enormous landscape that let people read and take a role on them as the fascinating journey to let people realizing the productive values in tangible way.
