Phase 5 : Green Engagement
Micro sustainability has long since been a tactic that is used by the government to provide clean natural resources to its people and raise awareness of sustainability in a large scale. This project speculates on the fact that people are less engaged in the sustainable life style in such micro sustainable system. It was theorized that when people share a common resources, they will put their self interest first and abuse the resources in fear of being in disadvantages of other. With that being stated, this project would like to purpose a new paradigm shift of environmental sustainability from macro to micro, in hope that it will encourage an engagement of the people and a sustainable responsibility. The housing unit is design as a minimalistic living style that incorporates resources harvesting such as water and electricity, as well as, encourages recycling and growing greens. It is individualized among all the unit so everybody has a fair share of hands on engagement with harvesting and using the resources. This will prompt their responsibility while using the resources, and in turn, will create a large and larger group of people that are more aware of sustainability and the value of natural resources.
Perpective 1 & 2 + Axonometric
Micro sustainability is individualizing how people retain and use their resources. As seen in the render of each unit, it is pretty separated from one another, but everyone has the same means of collecting their resources. However, even though this project speculates on micro sustainability, it is concluded that sustainability should not be viewed as black and white. In the render of the common garden area, even though people have their assign garden space, but it also encourage people to share their produce with each other. However, what is shared is also in the hands of the individual. The axon of the buildings together, shows the bigger picture of micro sustainability that is collected into one community. Even though micro is individualized, but a group of individual also can form larger group of independent compound.
Site Location
The site is located in the old port of Tanjor Pagar and Keppel, which is a an old port of Singapore that is relocated to another place leaving a huge empty plot of land.
Micro sustainable system is a new shift in paradigm of how people live their life. It can be said that it is radical to have such master plan located on this sit, but the shift have already occurred once in the history of architecture and a similar arrangement of building has been seen and became normalize as people get more expectant to it.
This project is not only the design of a building, but a design of people's behavior. A micro sustainability also relies on the fact that the people will be more responsible on the resources they consume and how they choose to live their lives.
