CHIANGMAI and TOD

CHIANGMAI

 Back in the late 13th century, the Lanna Kingdom covered most of Northern Thailand and Chiangmai was its capital in 1558. Then Lanna became a casualty of Burmese in 1292 and Lanna and Siam drove the Burmese out in 1775. In 1892 Lanna Kingdom became a part of Siam

This a map of CNX city, the old town in a square shape and the train station is located across Ping River.

 The site is 1km walking distance from the station and it’s in the zone of mostly residential area

TRANSPORATION

 There are many choices for transportation in CNX. Most of them are public transportation that the route and the price will be depending on the drive for example RED BUS and TUKTUK or TRISHAW

CNX used to have White bus which the bus stop by bus stations but it ended in 2016

KAD

 This are some example of KAD, or a market that have good food and products, basically, there’re two types of KAD

            1. DAY KAD : they sell fresh product and food which it will be active in the morning till dawn

                        - KAD SANPAKOI / KAD WOROROS

            2. NIGHT KAD : they will also be food, local food and many more kind of food, clothes for shopping                                           and it opens around 6pm till late.

WEATHER

JAN : the most popular month with the coolest weather, good for camping

FEB/MARCH : the weather starts to get hot and the air is thick with dust from the grass burning

APR/MAY/JUNE : the weather gets very hot and rain starts to arrive

JULY/AUG/SEP : the low season CNX, with cloudy day and storm

OCT/NOV/DEC : the weather starts to get cooler and rain starts to vanish, the come back of high season                            in CNX

HIGH SPEED TRAIN

Right now the high speed train in Thailand only covers in some part of BKK area. but by 2020, the high speed train will be covered the northern, eastern and southern part of Thailand. Along the BKK-CNX route, there will be about 6 stations which are ayutthaya, NakhornSawhan, PIjit, Pisanuloke, lumping and Chiangmai

DESIGN CONCEPT

In my design proposal, I pair up KAD + OFFICE together. My site is a RAILWAY PARK, 5mins walking from the train station, because KAD appears as the centre for CNX people, tourist and tribe people, the office is for a id register and medical check for tribe people

MAP

Talking about tribes in Northern Thailand. There are 2 types of tribe. The one that live in the area of the royal project, which most of them have id register and able to travel to cox to do a business. The other one is the one that live father away with no id register

Tribe people travel from the mountain to cnx to sell their clothes, food and many more at KAD WOROROS aka CHINA TOWN. But there are many more tribe people who wanted to open a business but they can’t find a space or don’t have enough ability to do. So, KAD in my design proposal is not only for local people but it provides more areas for tribe people to do a business with product quantity and quality control here, helping the one that can’t afford to do a business in other area

The new kad is also for local people who use train to travel to work (for now and in the future) to have a place to buy food before going home, avoiding driving into the city.
