CHAPTER II
Flower Production Floating Island
Flower Production Floating Island
According to the problem of the prohibition from government that not allow
to sell stuffs on the pathway because of
it make unorganized and unsanitary condition to the pathway which
it affect to the people who used to sell there.
Flower Production Floating Island is the solution for
this problem by providing floating space on the river that include all
production process of flower from the farming to selling and recycling. And
another aim is to promote people in Bangkok city know and considered more about
flower production which it not only gives opportunity for farmer to promote
their individual farm that they can sell directly on this island like farmer
market which not passing to wholesaler but also gaining the new experience for
customer that they can see every processes of flower production and can
participate to some of the process.
There are 4 main programs which consist of farming,
market, ritual, recycling. Each island can move along the river and also
connect to each other. The island can be transportation by itself along the
Chaopraya river.
The main island is Farming production. Forgetting the
old way of planting flower but use new innovation to help grow flowers fast and
productive. The main idea is vertical
garden that reduce the used of ground level. And using the roof structure that
can grow plant on so the roof will be cover with various colorful flower that
become more aesthetic as well as it function. While the market on this island
will give visitors like they are walking in to flower garden that they can
choose flowers by themselves. So they will get freshly cutted flowers from the
farm.
Collecting flower waste from Pak Klong Talad flower
market area, temple and hotel along the Chaopraya river then send it to
vermicomposting area for recycling. Vermicomposting is the solution that solve
the issue of flower waste that they actually dump into the landfill which cause
the methane to our environment. The process use red worm as decomposer to
breakdown the organic matter in this case is flower waste. The product was
called vermicast which contain higher saturation of nutrients more than before
composting and reduce levels of contaminant so it was used as fertilizer for
growing flower.
This island provides the space that can occurred the
ritual activities in any occasion which is different depend on festival such as
Loy Krathong Day the island will transform like festival and held activities
that related to Loy Krathong Day. And also take care about the all Krathong
that will be flower waste into the next day by collecting them and send it to
vermicomposting area to recycle further.
As it floats on the river, The island was provided
energy by itself as it irrigates water from river for using in entire island.
Using water hyacinth to filtrate polluted water in the river and use this water
for farming and other activities in island. Along with collecting the water
from atmosphere as it use the idea of Tower that is comprised of lightweight and
elastic stalks, woven in a pattern that offers stability in the
face of strong wind gusts while still allowing air to flow
through. A mesh net made of nylon hangs inside, collecting droplets
of dew that form along the surface. As cold air condenses, the
droplets roll down into a container at the bottom of the tower. The
water in the container then passes through a tube that functions as a
faucet, carrying the water to those waiting on the ground. And using wind turbine and solar panel for create
electricity that run entire every island.
To conclude, in this diagram show that the flower
production floating island combine all the production process of flower that located
in the same place as it was separated into different programs. It propose to enclosed the cycle of flower production starting from collecting the waste flower from existing flower market, temple and hotel along Chaopraya River then using the product of waste flower to produce new flowers furthermore. So the island not only related to each other but also involve to the context which is along the Chaopraya River.
