WAVES PROJECT : TAME IMPALA

TAME IMAPALA

WAVES PROJECT

We’re aimed to design the pop-up stage as a device directly to the chosen artist ,
in order to create a new experience and respond to the identity of the style.
PEERANUT THEINHIRAN

The chosen artist is Tame Impala leaded by Kevin Parker, the indy  Australian band. They are well-known in the style of popular psychedelic rock which influenced by a variety of genre such as pop, rock, traditional psychedelic, and such. Originally, this genre was created in India and to support the experience in drug using, but Tame Impala re-arrange the music to easier listening and meaningful. The main factor of Tame Impala as you see in the video is the relationship between sound and visual. The audience will disconnect to the reality wherever they play and experience in another world implicitly by these effect.

So the main concept of generate the device tour is to support the effect of relationship between hearing and visual.  From the graphic of latest album’s cover, I interpreted that the current is a reality or the visual in reality, when the song come distract the current, the reality become distorted and change to another story.

The storyboard portrays the initial idea about people will be get lost in the device and distorted the reality in to the world by device-made.

There are 3 main space in the project, the exterior, transition, and interior part.
They will see the giant scale of monolith in a sense of simplicity, still, geometric, and formidable. The still facade will be gradually move by the current of the wind to make people feel the contrast the feeling of dynamic in geometric-shape facade. The performance will be exposed in 2 levels, one is the stage that expose to outside and get people know there is concert in the device-tour and the PA system dancing. The second is the performance that expose to inside.
Once the audience get inside, there is a transition between the space which is the middle of exterior and interior skin. People can access to the concert hall directly on first floor, or go up-stair and observe the concert in other floors. There are some technical access that will be presented in section drawing in the next phase.

The model portrays the space inside intentionally. Also the material in each element in the space both outside and inside.
