Phase 1 : Analysis
Who is Jungle ?
Jungle is an english band created in 2013 by 2 childhood friends : Tom and Josh. Their musical style blends soul and funk music with tropical percussions. We can compare them to the Bee Gees of the modern time.
They consider everything in life as an influence.

The band is composed by different kind of musicians like trumpeter, trombonist, bassist, drummer, pianist and also singers (7 members).
They like the old school style and play with it : all of their videoclips seem to be created in the 1990s especially because of the dancers’ clothes and the space where they are.
Every videoclip begin on the same way : everyone is static for a moment and after begin to dance.

Phase 2 : Project
Jungle brings people to move by the rhythm of their music. They want to have a proximity with their public, to be connected with the audience. They want to touch people and bring to them emotion.
They want to give to people great time as if we were between friends and yet, they use to play in big place like festival.
On stage, they have an order placement : each musician has his own space with different levels between them. Indeed, we can associate this to the fact that each musician does what he want during the music played, so each performance is different from another on a same song.

I decided to create a space which seems to be in movement. The movement is everywhere but specially in the nature with the wind for example. So I took a topography map in order to create a space that seems to be there from many years, as if it was create by the nature.
Everything will happen in the Grant Park in Chicago (Etats-Unis).

I drew my own topography map and defined different spaces : the band play in the middle and the audience is all around. Everything is converging to the band. Jungle has always dancers with them, so they need to have a real space to take part to the show.

To help me to create those spaces, I put like a forest of points. It brings me to a gride which become the structure of the whole space. From the outside we see like a transparent skin which cover the whole structure and we can’t see really what is happening inside.

Through the skin we can see lighting games and some shadows but we dont see the real shape of the things. So the skin allows me to hide all technical spaces that we dont want to see like the backstage, the sound and light spaces etc.

The access to under the skin is permitted by tunnel. Inside, I wanted to create an atmosphere totally different with gold metal everywhere. The concrete wall allows people to cut themselves off from the outside world. Another experience begin inside.

I decided to create a big space outdoors which can accommodate 350 people. Indeed, Jungle is used to playing in music festival.
