Space and Organisation
The invert of communities : From city blocks to commercial buildings
Huaqiangbei is a developed city block in Shenzhen known as an innovative hub of technology hardwares including electronics manufacturing and wholesale within commercial buildings which are thoroughly located along Huaqiang Road. Inside the building, the hierarchy of space is applied to organise space and location of shops. According to the photograph, It can be used as a comparison between the shops that are located on the ground floor. To the right side of the image, there are small-single shops which much more smaller compare to the middle and the left where the area of the shops are wider. However, these kind of space represent the idea of working and living in a gigantic collective space.
Product and Development
Representation of working life
This photograph represent working life of a seller who was making her product which a single piece of components are assembled to a product. She spent long time within one day to finish waiting for customers coming.
Logistic and Distribution
Contradiction of working life
The owner in the photograph was putting her product into a paper box preparing for shipping to the customers however, she is be able to hire helper, she has one helper who helped her pack and check the products moreover, there is no machine in her shop which mean that she doesn’t sitting all day produce her own product but receive from other company. This can be seen that her life would be different from the woman in the second photograph, her life would be more comfortable and more free time than another one.
Routine and Boundaries
To live in a collective space
The mother was carrying her son while another arm scoop the rice for him surround with small packaging and a few amount of products at the back including fan and milk bottle for her son. This image describe the combination of living and working that are occurred in the same time including shows the boundaries between her shop and the shop next to her that the boundary have to be shared also it shows that she doesn't have a good life quality as well.
Routine and Boundaries
Same routine but different quality
It is the same activity and routine but there are many differences and contradiction in this image compare to the forth image above. Starting from the daughter, she has her own proper seat while the boy doesn’t have, the mother in this image can eating together with her daughter while in photograph4 can’t. The shop in this image is more wider and more space for three people to provide eating space that separate from selling counter. They have their own define boundary with decoration on the partition, at the back even light in the counter, also the formal logo with LCD tv for advertising are installed. By looking at the cleaner who swept the floor, it shows that cleanliness on this floor are concerned which money is counted as a main issue, more money they have the more space they get.
