Stephen JACQUENS - Phase 1

The phase 1 is a study of toys. Thus, I choice to study  constructions toys like “Kapla” and “Jeujura”. The first one is a simple 11,7 cm by  2,47 cm wooden plank. Its dutch inventor made its because he had difficulty to make plans and models for the renovation of a castle. The proportion of the Kapla allows to us them both as a long stoneblock, as a short beam and as a thick board. Then, the creator sells them as toys.

The second toys is “Jeujura”. It’s also a construction toys but the potentiality of it is reduced because of its shape. This toys is inspired by the swiss chalet. I also begun the studies of two others toys. One is based on the Tangram and the second one is a sort of mise en abîme of a 3D house.

In parralels, I began to study the properties of the moebius strip to produce a manipulation toys. It consists on looking for the capacity of the moebius shape, the materials of the toys, its pattern and the presentation of the toys.
